Nolato Grows CDMO Capabilities with Dutch Unitron Acquisition

Unitron manufactures complex mechatronic and electronic equipment, including ventilation, electrophysiology, optics, heating, and printed electronics.

Nolato has begun proceedings to acquire Unitron, a Dutch contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) for the medical technology industry.

Unitron, founded in 1988, provides end-to-end medical manufacturing services spanning early proof-of-concept development, regulatory compliance, design transfer, manufacturing, and post-production service. Its product portfolio includes respirators, heart monitors, organ transport systems, and wearables.

Nolato president Anders Björklund said the union marries Unitron’s agile innovation and end-to-end medical product capabilities with his company’s electromechanical development and PCBA manufacturing.

In combination with Nolato’s global production structure, it provides an industrially scalable and attractive commercialization platform,” Björklund told the press. “The acquisition thus strengthens Nolato’s position as an end-to-end solutions partner throughout the entire product lifecycle, from concept and design to product realization and scalable manufacturing. Furthermore, both Nolato and Unitron share a common and entrepreneurial culture that makes me convinced of an efficient and smooth integration process,”

The company houses more than 100 employees at its Netherlands and North America manufacturing plants. It’s expected to post revenues of about $20.8 billion (SEK 200 million) this year.

Beginning this month, Unitron’s operations will be consolidated into Nolato, operating under the Nolato Unitron name and led by current management. Last month, the Swedish company acquired Irish M&M Qualtech, strengthening its position in the electronics field.

“Acquisitions are, and have long been, a natural part of Nolato’s growth strategy and we are continually working to acquire additional operations that both fit our growth strategy and also strengthen our overall customer offering,” concluded Björklund. “Nolato has a healthy financial position, which provides considerable flexibility to make significant acquisitions if there is an opportunity to increase shareholder value in both the short and long term.”

Headquartered in Torekov, Sweden, Nolato develops and manufactures polymer-based products, including plastic, silicone, and TPE, for healthcare, automotive, and consumer electronics companies.
